A strong domestic violence survivor, Rosita Silva is a 30-year-old woman and single mother from Puebla, Mexico. She has two beautiful daughters, an 11-year-old and a five-year-old, with whom she lives in Ensenada, Mexico. Rosita is a victim of domestic violence, having suffered abuse at the hands of her ex-husband for many years.
Like most single moms, Rosita works long hours outside the home and is unable to see her children much as she struggles to make ends meet. According to the National Institute of Statistics, Geography, and Informatics (INEGI), over the course of the last 35 years, the percentage of female-headed households in Mexico has grown to 23%. These single-mother households often struggle to put food on the table on a sole income.
Fortunately, Rosita now has the protection of Mexico’s DIF, also known as the National System for Integral Family Development. She also attends psychotherapy to heal from her traumatizing past. JANE & CLAY CO. visited Rosita’s home to provide her with food, water, and other basic necessities to make her life as a single mom just a little bit easier.
Rosita extended her gratitude to JANE & CLAY CO. for the work that they do benefitting single mothers and their families in the Baja California, Mexico area. She hopes that JANE & CLAY CO. continues to provide aid and raise awareness about the difficulties that single-mother households face.
At JANE & CLAY CO., we strive to make a difference in the lives of impoverished single-mother families by providing them with the basic necessities they need to get by as a part of our Giving Tour campaign.
